Telecommunications

My expertise spans wireline, wireless, and broadband (fiber) internet providers in the United States.  In a saturated market where three major carriers battle for share, I can deploy innovations to improve margins, reduce churn, and differentiate your service from the competition.

Representative Projects

IT PMO: Oversaw 15-month Agile Salesforce implementation at a major US telecom, creating a project plan, communications plan, RAID log, stakeholder list, and weekly progress reports to guide 5 workstreams through a replacement of legacy sales and service applications.

IT PMO: Advised major wireless carrier during 8-month rollout of Internet-of-Things (IoT) portfolio with 2,500 pilot customers, producing weekly status reports and leadership communications to prepare client for the launch of 5 new B2B products.

Future-State Roadmap: Created future-state architecture and technology roadmap for a $420 million regional telecom, positioning the client to double its subscriber base over the next 2 years.

Third-Party Sales Platform: Designed a platform to enable a $70B wireless carrier to resell third-party business solutions, adding pricing, order management, billing, and customer support capabilities to increase utilization of the client’s telecom infrastructure.

Merger & Acquisition: Orchestrated a $5 billion supply chain integration for a $40B wireless carrier, merging two warehouses, 2,400 dealers, and 160 retail stores into the client’s existing handset distribution network with minimal disruption.

New Product Launch: Managed the rollout of a pre-paid wireless provider’s music streaming service in North and South America, which led to a 6.1% increase in ARPU (average revenue per subscriber).  My services included drafting a 6-month launch plan, coordinating daily meetings with 15 functional leads to resolve issues and remain on schedule, and providing regular updates to the provider’s senior leadership team.

RFP Management: Organized and administered RFP to identify a financial planning solution capable of managing a major wireless carrier’s $4.0 billion annual CapEx budget, helping the client choose the best-fit product among 8 contenders.

Quality Assurance: Prepared a $125B telecommunications client for entry into the digital media distribution business by leading a 12-person user acceptance testing team through validation of the systems that would support the new venture.

High-Tech

IT PMO: Supported 2-year Workday deployment at a global high-tech retailer, creating cutover timeline, communication plan, templates, and weekly status reports to prepare stakeholders across 52 countries for HR system changes.

Risk Management: Drafted a set of shortage mitigation strategies for a $50B high-tech equipment manufacturer, based on an analysis of supplier diversity, demand forecasts, and interviews with sourcing managers, that supported the client’s move to LEAN manufacturing by fortifying the supply chain without adding inventory.

Process Improvement: Assisted a manufacturing client with a refresh of its pricing practices, identifying a 21st century pricing platform ideally suited to support the client’s diverse product portfolio.  Using the platform in combination with its quarterly pricing review, the client was able to identify and increase sales margins on differentiated components by 15%.

Technology Upgrade: Evaluated order management systems for a $14B global component manufacturer and presented a solution that was used to handle $9.3 billion in annual sales orders across 140 production facilities worldwide.  My work included creating, distributing, and scoring responses to a Request for Proposals (RFP).

System Integrations: Managed 18-month program to build a real-time integration platform between a high-tech online retailer and 14 third-party vendors, enabling same-day work authorizations, background checks, and verification of employment history.

Financial Services

With an emphasis on direct banking, I have overseen projects involving credit cards, consumer loans, digital product marketing, online customer acquisition, and back office functions.  I am familiar with the unique financial industry regulations that must be navigated when interacting with consumers.

Digital Transformation: Led major retail bank through a 12-month digital marketing transformation that boosted online customer acquisitions by 33%.  Key guidance included a 5-year digital product roadmap, user stories, recommended partnerships with technology vendors, and post-launch testing to ensure correct implementation.

Competitive Assessment: Performed competitive analysis for a major US credit card issuer, creating a prioritized list of feature investments which the issuer deployed to differentiate its 9-card portfolio from the competition.  Over the next three years, these improvements led to a 15% increase in market share, from 7.9% to 9.1%.

IT Outsourcing: Reviewed IT outsourcing strategy for a $42 billion financial services client, recommending modifications to 6 vendor service agreements to better align vendor behavior and scorecards with business needs and performance expectations.

New Business Launch: Stood up 4-person inside sales organization for a national collection agency to market products in geographies lacking coverage by the company’s external sales network, generating $480K in new business in the first year.

Cost Optimization: Right-sized the software licensing model for a mid-sized financial services client, aligning maintenance contracts with client business needs and reducing annual licensing costs by 30% in less than 10 months.

Process Improvement: Led evaluation of software asset management practices at an $86B national retail bank.  Drafted a 3-year transformation plan to better align the client’s business processes and license management tools with industry best practices.  Facilitated design sessions and focus groups to lay out the plan in iterative phases.
